Meet Your Hatter

Hi! I am Madeline Janet, your hatter. I am a dreamer with two simple goals: I want to create and always be developing something. I love doing anything and everything with my family, drinking dirty martinis, talking ideas, and going to concerts. Oh, and the Iowa State Fair is a personality trait by this point. I believe that we should all try to spend majority of our days where we breathe most freely, and for me, one of those places is in my hat shop.

It all started with a couple cocktails on a homemade plywood dance floor in the middle of Iowa. We were at a friend’s boot barn party. A space that was built to create cowboy boots but turned into everyone’s favorite spot to drink whisky and dance. If I could bottle those nights up, I would be ____ a drunk. In my efforts to do so, combined with my love of shopping for hats with my mom, I said “lets build a hat shed”… having no clue what it took to make a hat. Once I looked into the process, I became obsessed. I love the tough work with my hands (literally some days I feel like I wrestled the beaver during the blocking process!!), and I am ____ with the possibilities when I look at a blank fur felt.
